Crustacius wanted to assure Julius Caesar that his galley could be returned. Crustacius knew that he was in the powerless position and he was guilty. He tried to “lessen” Julius Caesar’s anger by making sure that he could get the galley. Also, he tried to “lessen” his mistake by using the word “only” and also “never pass the fretum gaditanum”.
